A Trip to the Jungle
I got a phone call this morning to go with one of the pilots to fly out to the jungle to help a snake bite victim. I have been wanting to do this for awhile and I
was thrilled. I grabed my camera and washed my hair. Of course you've got to look good when you go to the jungle! We were flying out half an hour later.
The number and variety of clouds were amazing, and the jungle below us looked like broccoli. We flew over a water fall that had the look of glass that had broken of and fell into a toilet bowl! I know that seems strange, but the pool of water at the bottom was so round and deep it was incredible! We landed, and the little boy that had been bit was about Dustin's age (8). His arm was swollen, and he had blood coming out of his ear, which is normal for snake bite victims. He had been bit the day before around 8:00 AM. It was now Sunday around 10:00 AM. That is a long time for someone, especially a child to survive.
While the pilot loaded him up and checked on things I took pictures. The kids that met us where we landed followed me and giggled. Sandy, the pilot, said
they liked my blonde hair! I let one little girl touch it, and then I got to touch hers. The faces were so precious! Barefoot, runny noses, dirty, raggedy cloths, but yet absoulutly beautiful!
I talked to one man out there who knew a few words in english. He said, "This is my son." He was very proud! I bent down to take a picture and I realized the little boy of about six had a hearing aid! How truly amazing God is! Someone has been there before and has helped this little boy so he could hear! Out in the middle of the JUNGLE! Wow!
When we took off on the little, grassy, bumpy, dirt runway, all the people waved and there was a sense in my heart of amazing joy. I reached back and held the little boy's finger tips and then brushed the hair on his forhead. With a big grin he smiled up at me and his eyes twinkled. He must have been so scared, yet he was being so brave! His uncle was on the plane with him, because his Dad had to hike to another village to get the paperwork to take into the hospital for his son. When we landed in Shell, a taxi took them to a hospital so he could get the anitvenom into his system. I am sure he'll be fine, since he made it this far. This life here is unbelievable. I am getting to experience so much!
