Tuesday, December 19, 2000 - I was so tired and sleepy at school today, as I've been staying up way too late thea past few nights. I knew I had to get out anyway. Once I started it was like my body kicked in. I felt great and had a strong ride. I think what made the biggest difference was my knee. For months I've been fighting pain in the outside of my right knee. I usually get that when I push too hard too soon, which I think is what happened when I first arrived here. The pain has slowly been subsiding the past two weeks, and yesterday it was almost all gone. I only feel the pain when I'm riding.
The Dog Loop was where I rode today. I was in a fighting mood, but none of them came after me. I've gotten over my fear of the dogs now, and don't let that stop me from riding this loop. Over the fifteen miles I rode through a few drops of rain, but nothing significant.
Saturday, December 16, 2000 - I hadn't ridden for a week, and it was time to get out. I decided to go for a longer ride. At 4 PM I headed north on the main road. It was a warm and humid afternoon, and I had sweat dripping constantly from nose and chin. At the Rio Topo, just before the town of Rio Negro, I turned around. I was feeling twinges of cramps in my hamstrings on the way home, and I wonder if it was because I lost so much fluid. I find that hard to believe though, as I had my CamelBack with me and was drinking the whole way. At any rate, the ride was 28 miles and just short of two hours. I rode entirely on the pavement, and it's rides like this that make me miss my road bike. Lugging a mountain bike with big tires on the pavement is no fun.
